Two professionals who know what it's like when effort isn't enough—and what it takes to build the foundation that makes change hold.

SOVRAN exists because we've walked alongside hundreds of families who've done everything 'right'—and are still lying awake at night wondering why real life hasn't caught up with all the insight, effort, and investment.


We're Dr. Mignon Walker, a physician who spent nearly three decades searching for the missing layer between understanding and relief, and Mark Parlett, an educational consultant and father who's guided families through the gap between good intentions and sustainable change.


We built SOVRAN for families living in a stress loop: one person's dysregulation pulls others into anxiety and overwhelm, parents become reactive or depleted, and the whole household gets more activated over time. LAIR—the technique at the heart of our work—helps nervous systems update automatic reactivity patterns so families can create steadiness that holds under real-life pressure, not just during calm moments.

For most of her career, Mignon watched families work incredibly hard—gaining insight, learning communication tools, trying behavioral strategies—only to hit the same wall when activation struck at home. The skills made sense in the office. They evaporated in the moment that mattered.


She knew the problem wasn't effort or intelligence. It was that most approaches depend on a foundation many families don't have: low-trigger nervous systems balanced enough to not have to rely on tools when stress hits.


That realization led to years of work—formal training in brain structure and function, mental health modalities, study with master teachers in the ancient wisdom of Siddha Veda in the East, relentless clinical experimentation, and deep observation of what actually creates durable change. 


LAIR is the result: a bottom-up, body-based method that retrains the automatic patterns driving dysregulation, so change doesn't depend on perfect willpower or flawless communication.


LAIR isn't just another modality. It's the culmination of Mignon's commitment to families who've been told to try harder, be more consistent, or accept that 'this is just how it is.' She built it for the parents who are exhausted from managing everyone's emotions and the youth who are tired of feeling broken.

Mark's work with SOVRAN is deeply personal. As a teenager, he went through his own therapeutic journey—an experience that became the compass for his life's work. He knows what it's like to feel stuck, to wonder if change is actually possible, and to experience the relief of finally having support that meets you where you are.


Over 25 years, Mark has worked with families navigating some of the hardest moments of their lives: adolescents who've lost direction, parents watching their child spiral and not knowing how to help, families fractured by years of conflict and mistrust. 

He's guided families through therapeutic programs, residential treatment, gap year placements, and individualized coaching—always asking the same question: What does this family actually need to build stability that lasts?


Mark brings the perspective of a consultant who knows the landscape, a mentor who's walked the path himself, and a father raising twins who understands the weight of wanting your family to be okay. He's a dedicated helper and thinking partner—the person who listens deeply, asks the questions no one else is asking, and helps families find long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes.

His work blends structure and compassion. He values therapeutic and educational pathways that foster independence, resilience, and empowerment—not dependence on external management. 


Mark often weaves outdoor experiences into his work with families, drawing on the power of natural settings to support growth, confidence, and healing.

What We Know About Change

Effort isn't the problem.
Most families we work with have tried harder than anyone should have to. The problem isn't willpower—it's that their nervous system foundations are crumbling from being stuck in survival mode.​


Insight alone doesn't create change.
Understanding why you react a certain way is valuable. But when your nervous system is already activated, insight can't override automatic survival responses.

One person's nervous system affects everyone.
Families are interconnected nervous systems. When one person is chronically activated, everyone learns to brace for crisis. Sustainable change has to address the whole system.​


Bottom-up work gets to the root.
Top-down approaches (talk therapy, CBT, behavioral plans) matter, but they depend on a low-trigger nervous system, not getting stuck in emotional numbness, and being able to remember key points when your emotional system pivots from resilient to survival based.
